Own It Work It: Bring Life into Focus

Own It Work It
Bringing Life into Focus

Bring your life into focus and start organizing it to where it makes since to you. Layer by layer, dig deep into your life and discover what works for you.  Learn about yourself; learn what makes you, you, learn what you could live without, etc.  Differentiate between what matters and what does not matter so much; which is important and which is less important.  Stay positive, or at least try to see the positive in life.  It will open up your eyes and show you things you have never experienced before. Educate yourself about the things in life that are important to you, don’t just accept it because, validate it for yourself.  And always, always, challenge yourself.  You never know what new strengths you might discover if you challenge yourself to new things.  Have Faith and don’t let Fear take over.  Life is about learning, experiencing, going through trials and errors, ups and downs.  Just remember to own your life and work for what you want.  It will help you become a better person and truly give you meaning and joy to your life!  Taking control of my life was one of the best things I have ever accomplished and continue to accomplish till this day.

I hope you can find encouragement in my words to own your life, work for what you want, make a difference and change a life, change your life!

Own It Work It: Working for what you Want

Own It Work It
Working for What You Want

How do I work for what I want?  Well for starters, I know that it's not going to be easy or what I always want to do, but it will be worth it when it's all said and done.  No one can do anything for me, except for me.  So I have to "DO" in order to accomplish anything that I want.  I can't expect things to come to me just because.  I have to work for what I want.  I have to put in the effort to make the outcome that I want.  And always, always, remember I fit into my own "mold" and not what society seems to be just and fit!  It may take me a while to reach my goals and do the things I really want to do, but it's all about baby steps and that is absolutely okay!  Why, because I am my own person and I do things my way because I know what works for me!

Own It Work It: Challenging Yourself

Own It Work It
Challenging Yourself

I cannot stress enough how important it is to challenge yourself.  Without challenges I would not know what I am capable of, even physically or mentally!  Challenges for me are little paths in my road that I venture off into to explore and learn new things about myself.  It’s kind of like “a fork in the road”; I choose to take that path, I choose to challenge myself.  I may not know what will happen or what the outcome will be but I walk in faith, and know that it will be worth it.

Through challenges, I’ve discovered what I was made of, but most importantly who I am! Challenging myself has opened up a whole new view of life I never even thought existed.  I’ve learned through even life's hard challenges that my life is what I make it!  That it is up to me to do something if I want to see a difference.  It is up to me, if I want to change.  It’s all me, no one else, but me!

Challenges are life changing to say the least but are important and help me take control of my life.  I never knew how mentally strong I was until I challenged myself to get healthier.  Thankfully I have the willpower to continue to tell myself “I have to get healthy, I will get healthy”!  I’m not letting my mind or fear take control, because I am stronger than both of them.  I control my life and nothing will get passed me unless I step aside and let it!

Discovering my strength is only the beginning, I can’t wait to see what I will discover next!

Own It Work It: Educating Yourself

Own It Work It
Educating Yourself

I educate myself!  It is the number one thing I do in regards to taking control of my life.  I don’t just take peoples word on things, nor do I just accept things as they are just because.  I educate myself, do research and validate things for myself.  I am not perfect by any means, but I just don’t accept things, never have, never will.

Everyone is different.  What may work for me may not work for others.  I hope people truly understand that.  I might burn off calories slower with much more time invested than compared to someone else.  I may need extra time to accomplish my goals.  That’s okay!  Everyone is different, our genes are different, our bodies work differently.  But this is one reason why I always, always try and do my own research before just accepting it just because.

For example, shopping for products; just because someone says this product is healthy, make sure you do your research and educate yourself!  Just because the product on the shelf says “natural” doesn't necessarily mean it is “natural” it could be just a marketing tactic the company uses to lure you into buying their product!  So educate yourself and do your research!

When I first began my journey into natural / safe products, I had no idea what I was getting into.  I believed the “truth” companies were selling although they were not truthful at all.  I thought oh wow, this is a safe shampoo, only to find out it wasn't; that it had a ton of chemicals in it and I was putting it on my head!  Maybe that is why my hair is thinning, in addition to my genetics, who knows.  But what I do know is that I no longer accept things as they are.  I get proof and validate claims and educate myself as much as possible on the topic of reference.

Like with everything else, don’t just take my word because I recommend something or I write about something.  Do your own research, educate yourself and discover what works for you!  Find your own proof and own your decisions, don’t just accept what others have to say.

Own It Work It: Staying Positive

Own It Work It

Staying Positive

It's hard to always have a positive outlook.  Yes it is hard to always see the positive, but there is a lot of positive in the world, just as there is negativity.  But the hardest thing to remember sometimes is to focus on the positives! Life’s experiences will make it that much harder to find the positives in life, but moving forward is what I have to do.

When I lost our first baby, I was so mad and saw all the bad things!  I had every right to be mad, and to say it was not fair, but I knew I could not stay in that negativity much longer because I could feel myself sinking deeper and deeper into that black space that I knew I really didn't want to go.  I was grieving, but I also let the darkness creep in.  But one day I got up, got dressed, put on my game face and said no!  I had to find the light; I had to find the positive.  It was the only salvation I could think of besides God!

I had had enough and was determined not to fall into that cold world of negativity! Negativity is such a drag, such a drain of energy that I didn't want.   I knew I was better than that, I knew what I had been through; what me and my husband had been through, I knew I was strong even if I could not see my own strength!  I started seeing the positive!

Life is not all hunky dory, but finding the positive will change your life!   In me and my husbands’ situation; losing our baby made me Thankful for everything!  Yes it hurts every single day, but I cannot mope around and let all the negative of the world consume me and drain my energy!  Instead, I am, owning my life, taking control, learning to see the positive and making a difference!

I’m still learning how to see the positive on a daily basis and learning to let go a little and let those positive things influence me; influencing me into making a difference not only for myself but for others.  Our loss has made me see the other side of life!  Yes losing a child is the worst of the worst feelings in the world, and the worst experience ever, but our baby has taught me to appreciate life and see the good, to know that there is also good in every bad situation.

Without the bad negativity there would be no good positives.  Without the negatives you would not know what positive is! You can’t have one without the other.  That’s why I say it’s imperative to always seek the positive in the darkest of the darkest and to remember to find life’s positive moments and experiences everyday!

Own It Work It: Discovering what works (for me)

Own It Work It
Discovering What Works (for me)

What works? Hmm, that is another good question to ask myself and another way to start owning and taking control of my life.  Discovering what works for me will not only make me a better person but also helps me take control of my life on a daily basis.  Everyday I see commercials and ads saying Hey you need this because blah blah blah.  I’m sorry; no I’m not sorry but I don’t fall for the crap!

Through research, trial and error I have learned what works for me.  I don’t feed into what society or what companies try to give me.  I am my own person and just because that product worked for them, doesn’t mean it will work for me!  I am unique and different as God intended, so I don’t fit into that mold that society wants us all to fit into!

I am me, I know who I am because through trial and error and tons of research I have learned that; Yes, I am different and Yes I am okay with that!  I feel passionate about certain things because of my experiences; I like and dislike things for a specific reason not for a reason that the world sees fit.  I own my life, I am my own person.

For starters I know that organization works for me!  If I am not organized, I better forget it!  I won’t get anything done because I feel so scatter brained without a plan!  Now I don’t plan out everything but knowing what is expected of me helps me put my priorities in line and keeps things in perspective to where I am not using my valuable time on things that really don’t matter to begin with. I even bought a planner, it didn't work for me, so I made my own!  I made it work for me!

Discovering What Works and learning what drives me is another great way to start taking control of my life and owning my life! The world molds people into what it wants, but it takes a lot of courage and guts to not fit into that mold!  I am distinctly different and I must discover what makes me different, what makes my life have meaning and learning that those differences are what works for me and are not necessarily a bad thing!

Product Review: SweeTarts Soft & Chewy Ropes

Product Review

SweeTart Soft & Chewy Ropes

As an active member of Smiley360, I received a free product from Nestle; their new SweeTarts soft and chewy ropes!  I was given two samples of SweeTARTS Soft & Chewy Ropes: one Share pack & one Single pack.  I tried the cherry punch flavor.

At first I was a little skeptical, thinking it would be sour but it had the right amount of flavor and the texture was what I would expect; soft but chewable. It did not leave a weird after taste either, which is a good thing!  The single pack had 4 filled ropes with each rope at 45 calories and around 11 carbs.

Although this would not be my first grab for something sweet and chewy considering the carb count in just one rope, I really liked the fact that the ropes had NO artificial flavors or colors so for me it would come down to the fact if I wanted to eat less calories and carbs or eat something with artificial flavors; I'd rather have more carbs and calories! Please note all opinions are my own, Miss Momma G.

Own It Work It: Setting Goals

Own It Work It
Setting Goals

So how exactly will setting goals help you take control of your life?  Well that is simple, setting goals allows yourself to grow and learn as an individual.  However, the best piece of advice I could give anyone is to set realistic goals; easy enough goals that you know you will be able to accomplish but hard enough to where you actually do have to put some effort into to make a difference.

One of my goals is getting organized this year.  Yes it seems like an easy goal, an attainable goal, but I will have to put in work to make it happen.  My mess is not going to organize itself.  So even though it seems as if it’s a simple goal, it is still a goal regardless of how simple or how easy it is to attain!

Vision
Okay so I know I should set realistic goals, now what?  Well for me I have to visualize what I want.  What is my vision?  What is it that I want to accomplish?  What would I like to do?

When setting goals, I recommend not putting a deadline on them.  I say this only because if I put a deadline on a goal and did not complete it in time I feel as though I have failed although I did accomplish the goal but at a later date.  So for me, putting deadlines on a goal discourages me, and makes me focus on the negative instead of the positive.  And plus, LIFE HAPPENS and things don’t always work out as I have hoped or planned.  It just merely means I have to adjust and rethink my strategy, not put another deadline on something!

Make a Strategy and Plan
The next step for me in setting goals is to understand how I am going to go about reaching my goals.  The easiest way for me to make a strategy is to use baby steps.  I don’t rush straight into it, or take on a big goal all at once.  I gradually work up to the goal.  Yes, it may take me a while to reach my goal, but ultimately in the end I will reach my goal no matter how long it took me!

With that said, I know what baby steps I have to take so next is making a plan to reach my goals.  For example, my goal at the moment is to lose at least 10% of my body weight.  I can’t lose 10% all at one time, I have to make baby steps and the only way I can gradually make a difference is to take one baby step at a time.  Therefore I have planned a weekly schedule of fitness routines to help me reach that goal!  So my baby steps right now are: at least 30 minutes of physical activity 5 days a week until I reach my 10%!  Then I start with a new goal.

Motivation and Determination

So with like everything else, I get restless after the same old thing day after day.  But I find it very motivating to use my creative skills to help me stay on track.  I make motivational boards to visually remind me of what I am doing, and to keep going!

Determination, well that just takes full blown will power!!  At the very beginning of my getting healthy journey, I didn’t tell myself “I will do this” but “I have to do this!”  Telling myself I have to do something makes me accountable and determined and more out to prove to myself that I will make it happen no matter what.  Losing my baby most definitely motivated me and keeps me determined to get healthier!

But everyone who knows me knows they better not challenge me because I will show them up! And when people say that I can’t do something, oh they better watch out cause my inner bad bitch comes out and proves them wrong!  So basically this is a challenge within me.  My inner self is saying “Ha, ha your not going to do it!”, and my determined bad ass bitch self is like “Oh, yeah just watch me!”

So for me setting and sticking with goals takes will power, will power that I thought I did not have!  And the fact that I am accountable for my own actions, well that’s enough motivation for me to keep at it.  I can say yeah, I lost 10% of my body weight because I did it!  No one else shed the pounds.  I had to work my ass off to make it happen.  So now what!  So setting goals also makes me accountable for my actions!

By envisioning what I want to accomplish, I stay on track and keep planning ways to make my goals a reality!  Then with tough determination and creative motivation, I can keep my plan and goal into focus!

Own It Work It: Getting Organzied

Own It Work It Series
Getting Organized

So what does organizing have anything to do with owning your life?  Well it a great way to put what really matters into focus so that I can actually change my life for the better.  Knowing what is expected of me, requires me to be accountable for myself as well as being productive while making small and large accomplishments along the way!

My first step into owning and taking control of my life is the daily use of a planner.  It gives me organization and is a constant reassurance that yes I am making accomplishments and sticking to my schedule and accomplishing goals.   I use my planner to stay organized and sane!  I am a better person because of it!  Trust me; ask my husband how my mood is when I’m disorganized! Ha!

Anyway, there are many great ways to stay organized, but I have found that using a planner helps me out the best.  Organization Works!  It Works for me! In order for me to accomplish tasks, and know what I can and cannot put off for a later time, I use my planner.  Using my planner is my life saver.  It is like my Holy Grail!  Without my planner, I would be completely lost, disorganized and a complete wreck!  So yes, my planner and organization makes me a better person.

How I made my planner and how I put it to use!
To begin, I gather all of my required materials I think I would need to help me get and stay organized.  The best way for me to plan and stay organized is by making my materials and products Work for Me!  Making my planner mine, all pretty and cute makes it that much more valuable to me.  The more I like something the more I will use it!  So I Own It and make it mine!  Oh, the finishing touches on Miss Momma G’s planner; like no other!

However, I always, always remember to keep a tentative schedule!  I keep a tentative schedule because LIFE HAPPENS!  Things come up, things change; I spend more time on a task than expected.  So what do I do? I take a deep breath and tell myself that it’s going to be okay.  It’s okay because things happen, Life Happens!  If I don’t get in my three chapters of the Bible for my daily task, I either double up the chapters the next day or learn to let it go!  Accept the loss and move on, MOVE FORWARD!

Slowly but surely, I am learning to let things go and moving on. Yes, my Bible study time is important to me but its okay if I “fall off the wagon” every now and then.  It makes me human and it’s okay because I am Not Perfect and God did not intend for me to be perfect all the time.  God is not going to punish me for not reading my chapters for the day.  God is going to be happy and love me regardless because I am his child.

Life will move on with our without you, no matter what you do or do not do!

Having a tentative schedule also allows me to learn and grow!  I learn what it feels like if I do not complete a certain task for the day.  I eventually conclude that the task is either important or less important then change and adjust accordingly.  I also learn What Works and what does not work and what I like and what I don’t like.

WHY, it’s the ultimate question!  Why do I use a planner to stay organized?  Well, for me, keeping a planner makes me accountable for my time.  It’s a great time management tool but most importantly it’s a great way to look back at what all I have accomplished.  I can give Praise to myself for keeping up with my commitments, being productive, taking time for myself and completing tasks that are important and knowing the difference between what matters and what does not have that much weight to worry about to begin with!

Using a planner keeps me organized and most importantly keeps me sane!  Remembering that LIFE HAPPENS and keeping a tentative schedule will always help me keep what’s important in my life stay important.  New ideas and experiences will follow!

Own It Work It: How to start Owning Your Life!

Own It Work It

Start Owning Your Life!

So how do you re-train yourself to take control of your life?  To fully own your life and start working for what you want?  It starts with ones self.  We all have grown up into a world where society tells us everything; how we should look, what is acceptable, what we should eat, etc.  But I'm not eating that junk society is trying to feed me!  I'm doing my own thing and owning my life!  I've always been different and seen things differently and quite frankly I do not care what others or society has to say about me.  I am me and I am proud of it!  I am my own kind of sparkle!

In order to really start to owning your life, you have to really want to make a difference and want to change and want to make your life better.  So start with yourself.  Sit down and ask yourself "What do I really want out of life? What do I need to do to make this change?  What do I have to do to make this happen the way I want it? Why do I want to do this for?"

No one never really truly understands how strong they are until they are faced with either a life threatening situation or your life changes drastically within an instant.  So don't be scared, embrace your pain, discomfort, experience and make a difference.  Let that experience change you, but change you in a good way.  Use that experience and make that your foundation on which you rebuilt your life!  You are much stronger than what you give yourself credit for, so go for it.  Move Forward!  Don't let people, things, situations, experiences or circumstance define you in a bad way!

Take the world with a grain of salt, just as you should with people.  Why should you live a mediocre life when you were designed to stand out, be different and make a difference?  Why waste the gift of life, living in a world you do not want to live in?  Get up, and change it!  It starts with you!  Be different, color outside the lines, take a chance and see what happens.  Live in the moment and truly discover what you are capable of by owning your life and not living a mediocre life where society tells you what you should do, what to wear, eat, and how to live.  Find your sparkle and shine baby, shine!!

Own your life!  Be accountable for your life!  Be True to yourself.  Work with what God has given you and make the best of it!  Learn how to Move Forward!
