Protein Bar Review
Nature Valley VS Millville
by Miss Momma G
As you all may know, I am on a low-carb / low sugar diet. So it has been imperative for me to find a protein bar that would (1) taste good (2) be decent in carb count and (3) be reasonably priced. I tried brand after brand and they just didn't fit the bill. They were either way too expensive or the texture was wrong or just had a bad taste. So I was excited when I found Nature Valley's Chewy Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate protein bar. For a 10 pack of Nature Valley Protein bars, it ran $5.68 (Walmart Price). Then one day I went to Aldi and found Millville's Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter chewy protein bar for about $1.79 for 5 bars.
So then I compared the two based on: Taste and Texture, Carb Count, and Price!
Taste & Texture
Pictured below you can see that both bars are very similar in appearance. And overall they taste very similar to one another and have a good chewy texture. However, the Millville bar seems a little harder to chew than the Nature Valley Protein Bar.

Carbohydrates
Next, most importantly, was the carbohydrate count. I was very impressed to see that the name brand Nature Valley was actually lower in carbs than Millville in addition to a 1 gram lower in sugar!

When it comes to price, there is a $0.21 difference. Nature Valley comes in at about $0.57 per bar compared to Millville at $0.36 per bar.

Final Conclusion
In conclusion I can say both these bars are two decent options when you have a sweet craving but don't want to go overboard on your carbs! However, I prefer the Nature Valley Protein Bar because of it's taste and texture and the comfort of being able to chew it comfortably. Also it is lower in carbs, and every carb counts. But Millville would be my second option, especially when my budget is tight and when I need to satisfy my sweet tooth.
I, too, like the Millville bars because of the low carb count... I believe the net carbs are 9g not 10g (16g - 7g fiber). I could swear these used to say 15 grams of protein.
ReplyDeleteCan look at my blog to see nutritional facts of fat free, and low fat food with protein at grocery stores.
ReplyDeleteI eat the Millville low carb bars and they are 2 carbs. They have coconut and caramel and chocolate and taste great. Be aware they have sugar alcohol which gets deducted from the overal carb count but it can cause diharrea if eaten too much. I wish i could order them else where online but otherwise I have to drive to Aldi's to get them which I am not particularly fond of at the moment, but I'll go there for the bars.
