Teaching: Science-DIY Bubble Machines

DIY Bubble Machines

Activity: DIY Bubble Machine
Concept: Air takes up space.

Materials:

  • 5-8 tablespoons liquid detergent
  • 1 quart water
  • straws
  • plastic cups

Bubble Machine Assembly:

  • Cut a small hole in the plastic cups, enough where a straw can be inserted.
  • Mix the bubble solution in a separate container then pour into each plastic cup just below where you made the hole for the straw.
Directions:
Assemble the bubble machine and let the children observe.  Then help each child assemble their own bubble machine and let them discover on their own what they think is happening.  Let the children explain what they think is going on and why they think it's happening.
